One of New Zealand’s best loved clothing boutiques, Good as Gold (or GAG) has just upped the ante and opened the doors to its new tree-house inspired premises. After six years in their old space, owner Ruben Bryant said the move was initiated by the need for more space.
GAG stock the best jeans, tees, footwear, jewels, books, dresses, jackets, watches, shirts, blouses and everything in-between from over 60 brands from NZ, Australia, Canada, USA, Japan, Sweden, Denmark and France. The old shop was filled to the brim with stock and when the new space, which Ruben had had his eyes on for awhile, came available, he hustled hard to get it.
The new GAG store is influenced by Ruben’s childhood where he spent his time building tree forts and playing in the bush out the back of his parents house. His vision was achieved with the help from his father Ken Bryant who, as an architect, made all of Ruben’s ideas and spaces work together. The new GAG store is split over three levels of goodness and the stylings of a tree fort are obvious throughout. The store is made from Macrocarpa wood, that is typical of farms and farm construction in New Zealand. In places, the wood is kept rough-sawn adding to the charm but is polished smooth for display shelves.
The top floor is the ultimate tree fort with hinged windows and strong angles. The changing rooms on the ground floor stand in a row possessing the feel of part boat-shed, part outhouse.
GAG’s vision has always been about being super friendly and selling amazing unique products exclusive to their store. This definitely translated into their new kick ass retail space in Wellington – so go check it out for yourself.
